Two British tourists hit by what their families say was a speeding taxi in Ibiza are likely to spend ‘weeks’ in hospital before they can leave, relatives have announced.

Mum-of-three Ebony Cordingley,26,and mum-of-two Lauren Holmes,27,suffered horrific injuries in the collision on a highway near the coastal town of San Antonio in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Ebony sustained a bleed on the brain, bleeding in her lungs, broken leg, fractured leg, broken ribs and multiple contusions, while Lauren received traumatic brain injuries and several broken bones.

Their families say they had not been drinking and were walking back to their hotel after getting food.

Local police say they were hit by a Toyota Corolla driven by a 24-year-old man of Spanish nationality.

Today Ebony’s mum Diana, who has flown out to be with her daughter, relayed an update from doctors on the 27-year-old’s complicated injuries.

Diana said: ‘She’s taken the impact on the left side by the look of it. She’s got six broken ribs on the left side and multiple fractures in both legs.

‘She had an open fracture on her left knee where she’s got the staples which requires further surgery but they won’t do the surgery yet because she’s at high risk of infection.

‘It’s looking like she’s going to be here for weeks and that’s all we know at the moment.

‘They’re doing an MRI scan now to check on the brain bleed she’s got. It’s what they do every day.’

The family shared pictures of some of the horrific wounds sustained by Ebony (Picture: Solarpix)

She said Lauren’s injuries include a ‘spinal fracture’ and that she needs surgery but ‘also can’t have it until she is stable enough’.

The women’s families previously said they had been told the driver of the Toyota had passed a breathalyser test.

There is no indication that he has been arrested.

Ebony, from Bradford,West Yorkshire,is in the private Nuestra Senora del Rosario Polyclinic and Lauren Holmes is in intensive care at Ibiza’s main Can Misses state hospital.

They were unaccompanied but Ebony’s sister previously said she believes the pair were crossing the road when they were hit.

She said on Wednesday: ‘They weren’t drinking, weren’t leaving any clubs, they played in a park on swings, went for a walk, went for food then walked back to their hotel not realising the dangers of the roads around there.’

After waking up,Lauren said the last thing she could remember is ‘going out for some food’.

The Spanish Civil Guard is still investigating the crash.
